Tiger Loses= Great for Golf?

CHASKA, MN - AUGUST 11: Tiger Woods (R) aims ...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

Tiger Woods was teeing off today in a Major with the lead after 54 holes. He was 14 of 14 in winning the golf tournament. Today Tiger's streak is done. Y.E. Yang, spelled out Youn-eun, a 37 year old South Korean, tamed the Tiger on Sunday at Hazeltine National Golf Club. It is the second time he has beaten Tiger. He did it in 2006 in an event in China called the WGC-HSBC Champions. While Tiger did not win, the question remains. Did Tiger lose it or did Y.E. Yang win it? Many will say this is a great day for golf. That some parody for the sport is good. Tiger not winning a major is good. No it is not. Tiger is to Golf as Notre Dame is to College Football. It is just a better sport when they are in the hunt. I do not deny that Y. E. Yang is not a great story. It would have been a fantastic story for Lefty or David Duval to win the U. S Open. It was just not the same as Tiger being in the hunt for a trophy. Tiger is a rare athlete. Micheal Jordan, Jerry Rice, Tiger Woods. These individuals made you wonder if they were from another planet. You always knew when it was crunch time, they could do something that you will never see again. That is what made them different. That is what made them special.

Vick signs with Philly

Your Philadelphia Eagles!Image by firefightersdaughter via Flickr

Michael Vick has returned to the NFL. While many people seem to think that Mr. Vick should not be allowed to return to his profession, I am reminded that the stigmia that surrounds felons is that they have given up their rights to return to their former life or profession. Michael Vick made a horrible mistake. He made it again and again by not closing down that horrible operation. He has served his penalty, not only in jail time, but financial losses in the millions of dollars as well. His reputation has been forever tarnished by his deeds. While I understand the nature of the fan who disagrees with the decision to allow Vick to return, I also ask this question. Should the penalty for killing dogs be greater or less than the penalty for killing a human being? While Mr. Vick is being destroyed by the press, it seems that Donte' Stallworth is almost getting a pass for his error in judgement. One year away from the NFL and 24 days in jail. This is the penalty for killing a man. 23 Months in jail is the penalty for killing dogs and gambling. It just seems to me that the sentence should be one in the same at the very least.

Sports in the bubble

From time to time, Sports disappoints us. It inspires us. It brings strangers together in a way that nothing else can. We cheer, we cry, we yell, we jump up and down like toddlers. Sports makes us dislike people we work with everyday for one day. I hope to provide insight and perspective through this blog on the events of the day.
